Julian Reynolds

Julian Reynolds lives and breathes dance music, literally!

With five years under his belt as head of ordering for the vinyl department for Australia biggest online record store Vinyl Warning (www.vinylwarning.com.au) he definitely knows the business.

It all started, at the tender age of 16 when a fresh faced and eager teenager was caught by the dance music bug, with his older brother (6 years his senior) bringing home tapes from his local DJ. Records like Wink's "Higher State of Conscienceness" and tracks from the Prodigy's album "Music For The Jilted Generation" rocked his world.
After leaving Bass Station and with 5am winding down, he decided to focus on his new sound, electro house and deep German tech house which he had developed a strong passion for
Also, a radio program "Sound of Now" on local station Kiss FM was to be the true inspiration for him to become a DJ. Presented by Jason Midro, this was the show that inspired him to get behind the wheels of steel. From then on his destiny had been laid out before him.

From then on he decided to set out and get a complete set up. In 1999, a complete set up was a pair of 1200's and a mixer, how times have changed!!

Early gigs came fast with sets at many of Melbourne's club institutions like Hard Kandy and Bubble. For over four years he was infected with the uplifting virus that helped spawn legendary club nights like Gatecrasher and Slinky!!

His first major break came when he entered a local DJ competition at the legendary club night "Bass Station", run by his hero and Melbourne underground maestro Jason Midro!! This was the first time that the club had opened up their doors for a DJ competition.

After some strong competition and an "up for it" crowd, he was crowned the new Bass Station resident DJ. This meant a weekly residency playing alongside some of the world's best guest DJ's like Oliver Lieb, Leeroy Thornhill (ex-Prodigy) and Christopher Lawrence.

He retained a 3 year residency at the club which he still reflects on as being some of the best times of his career! During this time period Julian also retained a residency with Melbourne's then upfront trance night, 5am where he made some great friends and met some incredible DJs.

After leaving Bass Station and with 5am winding down, he decided to focus on his new sound, electro house and deep German tech house which he had developed a strong passion for!

Moving away from his beloved trance sound was never easy but a decision and direction that he had to move toward. Since then he has forged a unique crossover sound that can entertain the more commercial crowds while also educating the well respected Melbourne underground! In recent years he has supported some amazing DJ's.

In 2006 he was given the opportunity to open the main room and support Paul van Dyk for the Melbourne leg of his "Politics of Dancing 2" Tour while in 2007 he played directly after house legend Norman Jay at the Gatecrasher party in Melbourne. 2008 has already got off to a great start, opening the mainroom of the Apollo Event with DJ's Fred Baker (Belgium) and Giuseppe Ottaviani (Italy).

This year looks to be his biggest year yet with the completion of his new studio at home, some cheeky bootlegs already in the bag and some original productions forthcoming...
