Interview vs Push - The Battle Begins
24th March 2007 : 6:00 am to 4:00 pm
Tilt - Russell Street Melbourne
Prepare for a night of fun and frivolity on Saturday March 24th as the battle for the ultimate weekender, Saturday Vs Sunday takes place at Tilt Bar on Russell St CITY from 10pm
A night of battling Mayhem, where we will be seeing interview Residents up against Push Residents (Sunday's at the White Bar) all night long and a few new faces to the wheel's of steel and a score of uber-special guest’s beginning with Katie Drover!
We also welcome the likes of Jed, Denham and Little Chris to the Interview circuit, armed with flavorful weapons of mass destruction.
And dedicated to the sounds we love best! Be sure to catch these guys in the mix as they will deliver nothing but the finest of grooves!
With a huge selection of drink specials and special people to serve them to you, it wouldn’t be Interview without special mechanisms to deliver one’s drink, so prepare for the best time you have ever had as Interview gets looser than a goose at our family home Tilt Bar.
A perceptive friend, who figured she was really interested in playing records, after she repeatedly broke his needles and blew up his speakers, gave her the basics. "Now you know how to do it", he said, "please don’t touch my stuff again!"
Four years along and with current residencies at Q Bar, Mink, Robarta, Der Raum, Lionel and Circus, Katie says her favourite style right now is "trying to marry different styles together and to surprise people". As a musician she has a knack at keeping the music flowing unobtrusively and revels in the marathon gigs where she can create her own groove for the entire night.
Katie has the added credentials of being the editor of the infamous dance music and lifestyle website thescene.com.au which gives her a hold on the other end of the music industry. And has had mixes played multiple times on triple j, triple r and is a regular guest on kiss fm.
Katie cites her influences to be as diverse and as widespread as Billie Holiday and Charles Orf to Felix da Housecat, Derrick Carter and DJ Shadow. Katie would typically classify what she plays as house but with all the genre walls slowly eroding in electronic music finds it hard to pinpoint her exact sound. From smooth flowing deep house through jacking westcoast disco to slamming mainroom killers, Katie's sets are always fun, always dynamic and always interesting.
First captivated by electronic music late in 1988, the last 17 years have been spent working in many facets of the music industry, all the time on a crusade to collect the tunes that have shaped his somewhat distorted reality and share them with others.
1989 with acid house at ZuZu’s, Chevron and Checkpoint Charlie. The early 90’s with rave/techno/trance at Pure, Maze, Biology, Chemistry, Karma, Imagineer, Hardware & Every Picture Tells A Story. The mid-90’s mix of hard house at Dome, progressive at Union City, Mansion, parties at the docks and the twisted sounds of trance in the bush at Earthcore. While Earthcore and the progressive scene is where his heart lies, his collection is a blend of the best from all those eras.
His work has included promoting clubs, touring international DJ’s, managing record stores, a record label, a DJ bookings company and years of graphic design, but none of this has outweighed his main passion – playing records.
More recently Thad has tried his hand at production, with a certain success. His first track – Midnight Firefight – an acid inspired tech-trance adventure, first aired on the main stage at Earthcore’s 10 Year Anniversary. After finally passing on a few copies it made it onto the charts of local DJ Dean Millson & Greece’s rising star DJ Kosmas Epsilon who continued to play it at gigs across the globe.
With a stash of his own unreleased material and a collection of records as diverse as his – expect the unexpected!
